Tijuana Flats Restaurant Opening Close to Campus

Tallahassee

Orlando-based Tijuana Flats, a Tex-Mex restaurant, will open its second location in Tallahassee June 8.
The new location, 2020 W. Pensacola Street, is within walking distance of numerous student-housing complexes. Chief executive Camp Fitch, a graduate of what is now known as the Dedman Center for Hospitality Management, told employees he was interested in opening the company's fourth North Florida location close to Florida State University.
The 2,000 square-foot restaurant will feature 80 indoor and 20 outdoor seats. To incorporate local flavor, a mural inspired by the work of FSU student Heidi Zito will be prominently displayed.
"Tallahassee is a great demographic. A lot of people are familiar with Tijuana Flats because of our locations in Central Florida and South Florida,"said Michael Alberici, spokesman for the company. "There was a lot of buzz about it and a lot of people were interested in the first Tijuana Flats. We also wanted it to be close to campus."
In June 2008, the company opened its first Tallahassee location, 3111 Mahan Drive. Alberici said locations in Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach were opened after the initial move into the North Florida marketplace proved successful.
